Bayou Brawls: Folding chairs edition

Bayou Brawls: Folding chairs edition

THE BAYOU DRANK BLOOD AGAIN

Yesterday, as every month, another round of the Bayou Brawls took place. Citizens of Laveau, passersby, and visitors from all corners of Louisiana gathered around the ring, deep within the town’s tunnels. The atmosphere was festive as usual, marked by a brief respite from the summer heat and by the eagerness of many to enjoy the final days of their summer vacations. But the festive mood quickly turned into euphoria. The Bayou’s soil was stained with blood once again as the fighters faced each other before a crowd hungry for spectacle, in yet another brutal display of violence without restraint.

This time, the Brawls brought us back one of their most popular editions: Folding chairs edition. The rules were simple: two fighters, one ring, and nothing but a folding chair as only weapon to obtain the victory. It might seem like there is nothing particularly spectacular about that. The people of Laveau, however, proved to love the brutal bloody show.

The chairs were handed out. The bets began. The cheers grew louder and louder. And when Kingston Varriale took center stage to kick off the night with his usual enthusiasm, it became clear that this was not going to end with a handshake. Below, The Ledger brings you the full rundown of the night and the results.

EIRA SH’ZUAL VS. WESLEY

Eira Sh’Zual entered the ring masked, stretching her legs with the calm of someone who had waited months for the chance to return to the Brawls. Wesley stepped in carrying the tension of too many bad nights in her chest. Kingston introduced them with his usual flair. Wesley was the outsider who had slithered in from the big city, ready to show the swamp exactly who she was. Eira though was, in his words, “the beautiful omen of a very ugly ending.” Before sending her into the fight, however, he had one more important piece of information to share with the crowd: according to Clivia, her mother was a “single, hot MILF in our area.” Kingston left the audience to do with that information what they would before turning his attention to her opponent and who are we in The Ledger to avoid that important piece of information, anyways…

“FIGHT!”

Wesley opened like a stalking cat. She circled, then snapped the chair up in a sharp arc aimed at Eira’s shoulder, only to drop it at the last second into her side. The metal cracked against her ribs with a sound that cut through the noise. Eira folded around the impact, a strangled breath tearing from her lungs, but she did not give ground. One could really feel she was smiling beneath her mask and answered immediately: a vicious horizontal swing across Wesley’s torso. No wind-up. No space left to breathe.

Wesley planted her feet and drove the bottom edge of the chair into the outside of Eira’s left knee. The blow buckled her stance. One knee hit the concrete. The crowd held its breath. Instead of creating distance, Eira lunged forward. She grabbed whatever she could… wrist, clothing… and drove her shoulder into Wesley’s midsection while trying to hook the chair frame behind her legs. It was a full, messy, furious tackle.

Wesley used the momentum against her. She pulled Eira in harder, snapped a knee into the already compromised leg, and twisted with everything she had left. In seconds, she was on top, the metal edge of the chair pressed across Eira’s shoulders, her full weight pinning her opponent to the floor.

Eira’s legs trembled. Her ribs looked like they were screaming with every breath. She lifted her mask, bared a feral smile, and said through clenched teeth: “Enjoy the fuckin’ view, luv. Expect a rematch.” Then she went still.

Clivia’s megaphone crackled to life to announce the winner of the match: “AND THAT’S A FUCKING MATCH! After all that swinging, smashing, and questionable uses of furniture… your winner is WESLEY!” The crowd split between cheers for the winner and shouts of “For the Filth!” for Eira.

MIKHAIL VS. PAX

The blood from the first fight had barely settled when Clivia called the next pair into the pit. Mikhail Dragos, the towering albino Russian, and Pax, the man in the kilt with a soldier’s eyes.

Clivia didn’t hold back: “Alpha of the alpha… King of the kennel… Tonight we’re gonna find out if Pax is actually the apex predator, or if Mikhail is about to turn the Alpha of Alpha into a fucking chew toy.”

Mikhail wasted no time. He charged with the chair held like a shield, driving the flat of it into Pax’s chest with the full weight of his frame while sweeping for an ankle. Pax absorbed the impact, his boots skidding across the concrete, but planted his weight and answered with a short, brutal elbow to the jaw.

Mikhail spat blood and staggered, his vision blurring, then lunged forward with a headbutt that split the bridge of Pax’s nose and sent hot blood streaming down his face. Pax blocked the follow-up chair swing with his forearm. The metal left his arm numb from elbow to fingertips, but he stepped deep into the pocket. A punishing left hook to the liver followed immediately by a rising uppercut aimed at the already bloody jaw. Mikhail retched, his vision swimming. In one last desperate gambit, he hurled the dented chair and spun into a roundhouse kick, attempting to drive the metal into his opponent.

Pax didn’t dodge. He brought his own chair up in a sweeping arc.The two pieces of iron collided in the center of the ring with a bone-shattering crash. Mikhail’s chair flew into the fence, leaving the Russian exposed and off-balance on one leg. Pax drove the flat of his chair forward like a battering ram, slamming it into Mikhail’s unprotected chest. Then he lifted it and brought it down in a thunderous overhead arc onto his shoulder and collarbone. Mikhail staggered, still clutching the bent chair by pure soldier’s instinct… and went down. His massive frame hit the concrete with a heavy thud. Blood ran down his pale forehead and over the symbols inked into his skin.

Kingston entered the pit carefully to announce the winner: “That was one hell of a fuckin’ fight! Tonight the swamp has chosen a winner… PAX!” But there was no celebration from the winner. Pax dropped to one knee beside the fallen Russian, checked for a pulse, then gave his uninjured shoulder a heavy, respectful squeeze. He rose without raising his arms in celebration.
